Both teams arrived with contrasting fortunes – Nigeria seeking redemption after a shaky start, while South Africa aimed to build on their opening day win. In the end, it was the Super Eagles who soared, claiming a narrow 4-2 victory in a match that will be remembered for its drama and intensity.

Despite a valiant effort from the South African “Bafana Bafana” team , their profligacy in front of goal ultimately cost them. Iheanacho delivers: The Leicester City striker silenced his critics with a crucial goal, proving his worth in the absence of Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was greatly instrumental in the match outcome with two incredible penalty saves eventually leading to victory for Nigeria.

Nigeria will face either Ivory Coast or DR Congo in the CAF AFCON 2023 finals. This match served as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of the Afcon.
