The convenience store chain has announced the launch of its 2024 School Sports Day Grants, offering a £50,000 funding boost to schools across England, Scotland, and Wales. The initiative aims to support schools in purchasing new sports equipment and promote participation in physical activity among young people.
Following the success of their 2023 campaign, which received over 2,000 applications, Spar is once again committed to making a positive impact on school sports. The program opens for nominations on February 8th and runs until March 20th, 2024. Shoppers can nominate their local primary or secondary school by scanning a QR code in participating stores or visiting the Spar website.
Schools can apply for the grants starting February 8th, outlining their equipment needs and how the funding would benefit their students. Winning schools, to be announced in May 2024, will each receive a £200 grant to purchase new sports equipment.
SPAR UK Brand and Marketing Director, Suzanne Dover, in an official statement:

We are delighted to announce that our school sports day grant’s campaign is launching again on the 8th February. SPAR stores want to do their bit to keep the younger generations healthy and active,”
The initiative goes beyond just providing financial assistance. It aims to:
- Increase student participation in school sports by removing financial barriers.
- Promote inclusivity by encouraging schools to consider equipment for a variety of sports and abilities.
- Strengthen community ties by fostering collaboration between Spar stores and local schools.
With the rising concern about childhood health and well-being, Spar’s School Sports Day Grants offer a welcome boost to schools and communities across the UK. The program encourages inclusivity, promotes physical activity, and ultimately helps create a more active and healthy future for young people.
